As of this writing we are at 183 species for the Winter Bird List (WBL). It
appears it won't be long before we surpass last year's total of 187 species
for the 3 months.

Some families are doing better than others. We are behind in geese,
tubenoses and shorebirds. We have 8 species of shorebirds to date and while
I believe we should surpass the 11 we got during last year's brutal winter,
we may need some magic mudflats to equal the 19 of the winter before last.
Conversely our WBL is leading the country with 13 warbler species (including
chat) and we already have more than we had had in our last 3 WBL. We also
observed 29 of the 30 listed duck species within the first week. We are
missing the King Eider but it has been 3 years since it has made the list.

The following is a list of missing species so far this season categorized by
the amount of times they appeared in our 8 previous WBL

The following species have been on 8 of our last 8 WBL

Killdeer

Ruddy Turnstone

Mew Gull

Brown Thrasher

The following species have been on 7 of our last 8 WBL

Sandhill Crane

Red Knot

American Woodcock

Long-eared Owl

The following species have been on 6 of our last 8 WBL

Cooper's Hawk

Yellow-throated Warbler

Field Sparrow

Indigo Bunting

The following species have been on 5 of our last 8 WBL

Red-shouldered Hawk

Long-billed Dowitcher

Eastern Bluebird (on our previous 5 WBL)

The following species have been on 4 of our last 8 WBL

Great Shearwater

Black Vulture (but only once in the last 5 WBL)

Greater White-fronted Goose

King Eider (but not on our previous 2 WBL)

Nashville Warbler

Rose-breasted Grosbeak

Yellow-headed Blackbird
