--001a11c1639e5b0156050a03db09 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: dendroica.caerulescens@gmail.com [NS-RBA] Date: Fri, Dec 12, 2014 at 8:14 AM Subject: [NS-RBA] Dusky Flycatcher in Greenwich, Kings Co. To: NS-RBA@yahoogroups.com This bird was discovered by Bernard Forsythe on Dec. 2 on Harold Forsyth's farm in Greenwich. It was later seen by many birders on Dec. 5, 8, 9, 11. It is probably still there, and alive, due to the very mild weather. This is by far the most challenging ID with which I've ever been directly involved or, stressfully, the coordinator. We have photographed, videographed, and studied this bird for ten days. Two days ago we placed the ID challenge, with links to our material, on ID Frontiers, the leading site for expert bird IDs in North America. The clear consensus in public posts on ID Frontiers, and the over-whelming position in private emails to Avery Bartels and myself, is Dusky Flycatcher. These public and private posts were from westerners with extensive experience with all candidate species. This bird is a Dusky Flycatcher, the fourth ever seen in NS. Here is a public link to read the ID Frontiers posts: http://birding.aba.org/maillist/IDF Thank you, everyone, for your input and your patience.
