<DIV This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0095_01D00649.94BFA030 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi Paul & All, Food can also limit beaver. This was demonstrated clearly in an area = of about 9 square miles in which I had hunted deer for many years; high = ground SW to NW of West Bay. I don't now recall details but the lesson = was clear. When the Spruce Budworm killed large areas of Fir and Spruce this = beaver unfriendly woodland became thickets of Birch, Maple & Alder. From = a nucleus of beaver that had been limited to streams near = Alder/Sphagnum/Sedge bogs there was a starburst of beaver dams into = these new food areas which gradually faded as the conifers took over = again. Beavers go to considerable trouble to make their homes in spots where the water level is not changing=20 all the time and may find tides disconcerting. Not too mention the lower temperature of the salt water. A long time trapper in his 80s told me a few days ago he will not trap this fall for the first time in many years. I asked if he was retiring =E2=80=93 No no he said, too young for = that! but the price was so low it wasn=E2=80=99t worth it. So we can look for an increase in beaver populations in the next few years =E2=80=93 Good news for some, not so good for others.
