They were= eating weed seeds along the side ofthe road. One went and sat on a large r= ock for a few minutes. Thefirst ones I've seen this fall.There was a good n= umber of Horned Grebes ( 50 about ) aroundthe island in the bay. I watched = one at close range - it was in close to=C2=A0 shore.While I watched it caug= ht a fish - my guess was a silverside. interesting proceduregetting it down= . first get it into position meant dropping it in the water a couple oftime= s and picking it up again. Then one gulp!A group of red breasted Mergansers= about 12 were fishing in among the rocks. they weremaking the=C2=A0 water = fly as they flapped around on the surface. then they all dived.
