Hi Nancy
American Widgeon are very common along the Northumberland Strait.
They nest in many small farm ponds and are quite tame in some farms.
Lovely calls just at dusk on a spring evening. They will walk around
among cattle or sheep and feed out of the troughs.
Quite common in summer on the ponds of eastern PEI.
Not so common on the South Shore. They mostly leave in September
but a few stay around. Certainly one of the most common nester among the ducks.
Enjoy the rain
Paul

We saw two American Wigeons (male and female) on the pond at Fort Pt, Lahave, Lun Co this morning. McLaren lists it as a common transient but these are the first ones I have ever seen around this area.

James Hirtle mentioned seeing one at nearby Miller's Pt among some Canada Geese about 2 weeks ago, I think. These two were alone on the pond except for 3 distant Hooded Mergansers.

Nancy
