There are two photo exhibits opening in Halifax that may be of interest because of the subjects - bringing together ideas of nature, and human impacts on green spaces. Patricia L. Chalmers Halifax “Nature ReConstructed”, an exhibit of McNabs Island by photographer Rochelle Owen, opens on Monday, October 6 at 6:30 in the Halifax ferry terminal. McNabs Island has a long history of human habitation. Nature ReConstructed looks beyond the old houses and fortifications to show what's in the background, nature busy reconstructing. Military bunkers are overgrown with trees and plants, and marine debris is draped in seaweed. Animals, the ocean, wind and light have changed McNabs Island. "Parking the Common" is a collaboration between photographer Kathleen Flanagan and biologist Peggy Cameron. The exhibition opens on Tuesday, October 7 from 5 to 7 pm at the Dal School of Architecture, Spring Garden Road. It looks at how the historic Halifax Common, established in 1763, has been eroded by an invasive species of parking lots. For more information, please visit www.halifaxcommon.ca/phylum-paveia/ or facebook.com/halifaxcommon250/. Both exhibitions are part of the city-wide, month-long Halifax Festival of Photography, Photopolis. Please check out all of the Photopolis events: http://www.photopolis.ca/exhibitions.html.
