Hello Phil and all,

In the old growth green belt that backs onto our backyard here in Dartmouth (close to Lake Banook) we have, in every previous years, had quite a lot of the tall 'Himilayan Balsam', but this year, I have only seen just the smaller golden coloured jewelweed which is still very abundant.
I was told that the Himilayan Balsam, 'Policeman's Helmet' was very invasive, but it never seemed to get into any of my flower gardens in my backyard. The plants, including in smaller flowered golden jewelweed, seemed to like growing mostly around the brook that runs down the centre of the green belt that separates Celtic Avenue & my street, Glenwood Avenue.

There's a persistent, but controlled, stand of this species at the
beginning of the McIntosh Run Trail here in Spryfield. The native
species is abundant along the trail...
