Everyone here knows my vote, which goes to Newcombe=92s Wildflower =
Guide, which when it came out in 1977 was already field-tested =97 it =
has a quite simple key system, which is easily learned (with the proviso =
that every choice you make requires flexibility and repeated visits to =
the key, until you find a good match for your specimen =97 it=92s line =
drawings are superb, usually, and far superior to photos =97 drawbacks =
are that you need to have a flower for the key to work, and this guide=92s=
coverage in eastern North America, not just Nova Scotia. Any =
provisional identification needs to be checked with the Flora of N.S., =
which can be found in any public library or university library. That =
Flora is already dated, of course, as is anything that is ever =
published.

I was very fortunate back in 1977 to discover this then-new guide in a =
bookstore in my home town of Park Ridge in the Chicago suburbs. And I =
have been faithfully using it and promoting it every since.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.

I'm looking for a smaller guide to throw in the pack to compliment the =
less-than-portable NS Flora. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.=20=
