There was a "kettle " of 5 Turkey Vultures, 2 Bald eagles and 3 N.
Harriers (all Imm plumage as far as I could tell) over Pond Cove, Brier
this morning slowly heading east. There has been a pair of eagles hanging
around together here for the last 4 days, and seem to be roosting on Gull
Rock. I think they've been there all summer.
Yesterday I was shown a freshly dead juv. N. Goshawk that had apparently
broken it's neck hitting a window. It was a beautiful specimen, perfectly
preserved, and although I took several photos of my granddaughter holding
it and demonstrating the field marks, I was unfortunately not in a
position to take it anywhere. I wonder what a juv. plumaged Goshawk was
doing here at this time of year.
As usual there are individual N.. Harriers patrolling the edges of Pond
Cove constantly. I have also seen a couple of Merlins, 1 Sharpie and 1
Broad - wing.
