In May of this year in this city, I saw several robins' nests, all on metal eavestroughs of houses under overhanging eaves. There are lots of trees as well, but the only nest I noticed in a tree was a grackles nest far up in a blue spruce. I assume that the robins nest where they do as a way of evading predators, such as grey squirrels, which are everywhere here and are considered pests. An adult Blue Jay seems a bit big for them but the ones I see interacting with Grey Squirrels at my feeder are careful to stay away from them so perhaps they are normally too difficult for the squirrel to catch rather than it being a case of them being too big. Maybe this was a young, inexperienced bird or a sick/injured one. > > All the best, > > Lance > > LANCE LAVIOLETTE > > Glen Robertson, Ontario > > FROM: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] ON BEHALF OF Richard Stern > SENT: Monday, August 04, 2014 8:21 AM > TO: NatureNS > SUBJECT: EXTERNAL: [NatureNS] Fwd: Grey squirrel > > Any thoughts? > > Richard Stern > Sternrichard@gmail.com [1] > Sent from my Android device > > ---------- Forwarded message ---------- > From: "Mander" <mmander@ns.sympatico.ca [2]> > Date: Aug 4, 2014 9:06 AM > Subject: Grey squirrel > To: "Richard Stern" <sternrichard@gmail.com [3]> > Cc: > > Richard > > I thought I was seeing things, so I thought I would check with you.
