Hi all,
Yesterday, 18 July, late in the afternoon, we had four Monarch in the same small area of our field. At first we were watching two Monarchs doing their fascinating spin around each other in rapid flight.when suddenlhy a third appeared. Later while these three flew fleatingly around our milkweed and into the trees, a fourth flew by.

I was out this morning but did not sight the Monarchs.

In the interim since our last report we have seen one Monarch consistently laying eggs on the milkweed here. So far we have collected about 40 eggs and larvae to raise under protection. All of the eggs have hatched now and we are busy keeping track of tiny larvae.

This sighting is encouraging since last year we did not see our first Monarch until August, as I remember. We had no egg laying at all. The spring has been more favorable to the migration this year and more have made it up here. Hopefully, there will be more Monarchs returning to Mexico this year than last. Maybe they can make a comeback.

If you sight a Monarch I would love to hear about it.
Also put it on Journey North to fill out the map. That is http://journeynorth.org
