Once again this morning the Common Merganser family is going back and forth again and again along the lakeshore, occasionally pausing to feed. It is probably about 6-12" deep where they are swimming. This might be some method of food gathering/corralling? It's odd behaviour we have never noticed them doing before. There are 7 young this morning, rather than 5 as on Monday, so maybe it is a different family. There have been enough passes both days to make an accurate count.
