While splitting a rotting log, a few fairly large larvae
got exposed. Diameter approx. 5 mm.
Woodpeckers may like those protein packages.

Can anyone tell what types of (probably beetles?)
might be responsible? I understand that size only
will be of limited value in identifying, just curious
on some general background.
