Around the end of winter, e.g. Junco will vigorously tug at = overwintered Aster cordifolius heads in the hope of finding a few full = seeds and American goldfinch sometimes feed on Gnapweed seeds (very = bitter) and no shed seed goes to waste. In addition, mowers tend to = grind insects. On the other hand rotary and push mowers have the advantage that = clippings can be left in place and this over time will enhance soil = organic matter and discourage Chinch Bugs which are favored by dry soil = conditions. But the same effect can be achieved by sifting debris from = compost and adding a light dressing to drier patches.
