Index of Subjects On Thursday I saw 3 Snapping Turtles on either side of a bridge in Lakeview, nr East Dalhousie, Kings Co. It was a damp, overcast morning after heavy rains the day before. These females were all making nest scrapes along the shoulder within 5m of the bridge. This is on a dirt road that gets regraded every Spring (usually in May) and the loose gravel is probably an attractive place for the turtles to dig. Here is a photo of a smallish female (only 8") and another of her (successful?) nest scrape: https://www.flickr.com/photos/92981528@N08/14467064455/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/92981528@N08/14465724412/ Road shoulders appear to be popular nest sites. But these locations seem very vulnerable to me, even on a gravel road. But maybe as good as many other sandy/gravelly places subject to flooding etc such as lakeshores? Has anyone else seen any snappers this year? I'm on a mobile phone so can't look up behaviour but I'm assuming it's a precipitation temperature thing. > > Ian
