This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_00BA_01CF881C.F98B6E00 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi Blake: =20 =20 The Atlantic Veterinary College welcomes any/all specimens for necropsy = to determine cause of death. They track wildlife diseases throughout = Atlantic Canada. Parks Canada sends all of our (unfortunate) specimens = there for free necropsy. My guess is they would be glad to get it. You = could contact Dr Scott McBurney. I=E2=80=99d have to search their = website for a phone number so I=E2=80=99ll leave that to you to pursue = if interested. =20 =20 It is curious that it would die now with presumably lots of food sources = around. Maybe it swallowed something containing lead, or poison (as = some folks are still unfortunately using rat poisoning at their summer = cottages, home shops and attics, etc). =20 Donna Crossland =20 From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca = [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] On Behalf Of Blake Maybank Sent: June-14-14 11:13 AM To: naturens Subject: [NatureNS] Snowy Owl Corpse =20 While on a group hike yesterday (June 12) in the Polly's Cove area (just = east of Peggy's Cove) I found a freshly dead Snowy Owl. The corpse was = in fine condition, and is now in my freezer. It seemed emaciated, and = so perhaps died of starvation. There was no sign of any predation. I sent a message to Andrew Hebda of the NS Museum to ascertain if he = wishes the specimen for the collection, but there has not yet been a = response. If he cannot use it (or does not respond) then where else can = this specimen go? I recall Randy Lauff looking for birds for the St. FX = collection. =20 Any thoughts?
