Today I had a chance to canoe Wrights Cove and to check on the small =
urban Common Tern colony at this gravelly islet. I didn=E2=80=99t =
actually land on the island so as not to disturb the birds. The colony =
was obviously active, with up to five birds in the air at a time. At one =
point something startled them, and there were maybe 20 in the air =
simultaneously. This seems to be somewhat fewer than in previous years. =
The Canadian Wildlife Service sign warning the public of the presence of =
the breeding terns has disappeared...

There were two terns fishing in Sullivan's Pond in Dartmouth this =
morning when I walked round it with my granddaughter - I think they were =
Common Terns.
