Hi all
No flycatchers were braving the 6C weather and NE wind at Big I. this =
morning, but there was a nice bit of birding particularly a nice variety =
but in small numbers of shorebird. As the tide was falling at the west =
end beach (which has a nice big seaweed heap on shore), I noted uncommon =
spring Pictou Co birds- Semipalmated Sandpiper (1), Semipalmated Plover =
(1) and White-rumped Sandpiper (1) - all were photographed. Also here =
were 3 Gt Yellowlegs, 2 Willets and 1 Spotted Sandpiper. A single =
American Pipit was also on the seaweed.=20

There are still more than 100 Surf Scoter off the causeway as well as 20 =
some Black Scoter and 7 Long-tailed Ducks.=20
There were 15 Common Terns dive-bombing an imm. Bald Eagle in the big =
saltmarsh. I think it might be the same eagle that a few days ago, I =
photographed from a distance mantling with a Snowy Owl beside it. I did =
not see the Snowie today.=20

I noted 10 warbler species- nothing too unusual, but nice to hear a =
Northern Waterthrush. Ovenbird was the most common warbler with 24 =
noted. My tally for the morning was 65 species.=20

Nearby at Lismore wharf, I noted what I think is a sub-adult Lesser =
Black-backed Gull as well as 4 in fine breeding plumage. There were also =
2 imm Iceland Gulls in the mix of 500+ gulls present.=20

cheers
Ken
