Most of the records are in = Inverness Co. near the coast .=20 Lindsay (1875) listed it from Mahone Bay so I wonder if all or any = of the Mahone Bay stands you mention are transplants. It is a swamp = plant and conspicuous only when in bloom so a small patch could be = easily missed.=20 Also swamps can change over time as a result of natural infilling, = changes in upslope drainage or water use and migration of nutrients. = Consequently so called stations may be relatively transient.=20 Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville ----- Original Message -----=20 From: James Hirtle=20 To: Naturens Naturens=20 Sent: Monday, May 19, 2014 12:09 AM Subject: [NatureNS] Plant at Garden Lots Hi all: =20 This is what Ian Manning has come up with for me. =20 I ran this through my Roland's Key. My best guess is Marsh Marigold = (Caltha palustris). The range map in the book (which is due for a = revision) states it's only found in Cape Breton County. But upon a = further search, it looks like there has been some introduced populations = seen in Mahone Bay, and other locations in Lunenburg Co. I think it's = safe to assume that if this is C. palustris, that it's origin is likely = human caused. I'd like to hear what others think. =20 =20 I also would like to hear your comments on this species. =20 =20 James R. Hirtle Bridgewater =20 No virus found in this message.
