--001a11c12228416a5f04f99b7eb4 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 17 May 2014 Dauphinee's Pond, Tantallon Dauphinee's Pond lies behind the Sobey's and Rona stores in Tantallon. You can access the bank overlooking the pond via a road to the west of the Rona store. Lots of Red-winged Blackbirds, and the pond is a source of food and water for a large colony of Barn Swallows that nests in the Lumber Garage at the east side of the Rona store. The staff there are quite obliging allowing swallow gawkers to enter in. The ceiling is very high, and the swallows are constructing their nests on the high girders. The massive sliding doors are closed at night, which I suspect is okay, as it keeps the birds warmer. But the good news is that the store is open 7 days a week, so the birds can come and go daily (though the store does not open until 10 on Sundays). Go and have a look at these modern Barn Swallows, and encourage Rona to keep the birds happy.
