Hi all,

I sent an email to Hope for Wildlife, inquiring about what had become of 
the hawk with the broken wing which was found on Brier Island in 
January.  I also wondered whether it had been positively identified as a 
red-shouldered hawk, which I recall someone had commented would be 
relatively unusual for this area. Following is her response:

Hi Chris,

Yes, we had verified it as a red-shouldered hawk. I also checked into 
the medical details: s/he was in care for over a month; that tells me 
that there was an attempt to fix the break but it was unfortunately 
unsuccessful. It was noted that the pin had slipped and mis-aligned the 
fracture. Falcons have a high tendancy for self-mutilation of the 
injured part and even try to remove pins.
