Pat and I were able to come up with 56 species yesterday for the count. Th=
e winds in the afternoon were between 30-50 Km and it started to rain at 14=
:30 here. By the last quarter of the route it was a torrential downpour=2C=
so I did not walk at a lot of locations that I normally would have=2C whic=
h had potential to get other species. Of note a big miss was hermit thrush=
for us. I thought I heard one at one point=2C but the wind affected my he=
aring at many locations. Another big miss was American redstarts of which =
we always get a lot at one location. I'm sure I had one singing=2C but cou=
ld not get it out=2C so did not record it. Highlights for us were the fema=
le scarlet tanager=2C evening grosbeaks at three separate locations=2C red =
crossbills along the Watermill Road=2C five species of warblers only (norma=
lly we get 8-12 species)=2C the merlin back on nesting territory at the Cem=
etery in Bridgewater=2C (virtually attacking an American crow)=2C close-up =
and personal views of blue-headed vireos=2C and watching 10 common terns at=
 Bachman's Beach in a torrential downpour. =20
