Anne and I spent several hours between Little Harbour and Lockeport in Shel=
burne Co. today. Landbirds (with the exception of Robins, Starlings and Son=
g Sparrows were practically non-existent, but all was not lost:

Lesser Scaup - 3 (a male and 2 females in downtown Lockeport just off S=
outh Street)

Harlequin Duck - still 4 pairs off the E side of Hemeon Head (beautiful=
in sunshine and heavy breaking waves)

Surf Scoter - the most abundant duck on the sea. Several significant fl=
ocks, one of them in Lockeport back harbour

Long-tailed Duck - 100+ with Eiders at the S end of Lockeport

Red-necked Grebe - 1 in full breeding plumage, Lockeport back harbour

    N. Gannet - a steady stream of adults headed NE off Hemeon Head. We cou=
nted 50+ in just over 5 minutes. This is the first major migration I have s=
een this spring.

    N. Harrier - a male quartering Hemeon Head

Palm Warbler - 2 males feeding together on the ground along a sheltered=
woods road in Arnolds, S of Little Harbour. They behaved like arriving mig=
rants. This morning Richard Blacquiere reported the first Palm Warblers of =
the season at Point Lepreau, NB, where he does a daily watch. We heard none=
singing on territory, despite an abundance of suitable habitat.
