13 April 2014

Chris, Kate and I were part of a hike to learn about lichens.  It was on
the trail to Nichol's Lake that leads from the Sunrise Park Cemetery in
Hatchet Lakie.  Two singing *Winter Wrens* were spring arrivals, and a
drumming and calling *Pileated Woodpecker* was welcome.

Later we headed to Terence Bay and Kate spotted 8 *Purple Sandpipers* on
rocks off the S.S. Atlantic Memorial site.  There were many grebes in
evidence -- *9 Red-necked Grebes and 3 Horned Grebes*.

Dozens of cormorants had returned to their colony on Inner Gull Island.

A great day of birding.
