Thank, you, Jim and all others. Very, very interesting. I take it =
that turkey vulture nests are very inconspicuous, unlike those of =
ospreys and bald eagles. Regards,

Subject: [NatureNS] re turkey vultures nesting in N.S.?

In answer to Dusan earlier and Gayle re turkey vultures nesting in Nova =
Scotia, this has been suspected for the North Mountain from Bridgetown =
west for several ytears, but with no real evidence other than the =
regular presence of turkey vultures. Then, reported in Nova Scotia =
Birds (NSBS), in the "Summer 2011 issue, Vol. 53, Issue 3, was the =
article, "Apparent First Nesting of Turkey Vulture in Nova Scotia" by =
Suzanne Borkowski and Ian McLaren. In 2011 a pair of TVs apparently =
nested successfully in a 'nest'-site at the shrubby edge of dumped =
boulders adjacent to the Lake Major Water Supply (processing?) Plant =
somewhere at Lake Major, HRM, north of Cole Harbour. Workers there in =
early July reported three young vultures with black heads with the two =
adults. The birds were gone when Suzanne & Ian visited the site in mid =
and late July; thus all they could do was find and describe the apparent =
nest-site. But they concluded that there was enough evidence to make =
this the first official nesting record for N.S.=20

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.

Certainly there is quite a 'flock' that are commonly seen, year-round =
at the baseball park in Bridgetown. Very close to homes too. They have =
been present there for a number of years now. I got some great photos of =
8 of them, this time last year, at the ballpark, on the ground, roosting =
on the chain-link fence, up in the trees, when I was visiting friends in =
Granville Ferry. Whether or not they breed here, is another question. =
Anyone know for sure?

  Sincerely,
  Gayle MacLean
