This practical approach, where there is dykeland, was brought over = by the Acadians and practiced as a way to replenish fertility. At = intervals, as necessary, a dyke was breached to allow seawater to flood = a small polder and deposit 10-15 cm of fresh mud. Small is the key word. = This approach is useful only if dykelands are partitioned into = sub-units. It would thus be quite possible, by good management, to keep = building the elevation of dykelands and keep pace with the rise in sea = level and thereby avoid the horrendous consequences of having large = areas of land 30' below sea level (include roads, sewage ponds, shopping = centers, etc.) suddenly flooded by one breach in the dyke. In addition = this approach avoids the cost of having to build ever higher dykes. I met with Hank Kolstee (Supervisor of Land Protection) in 2007 but = he for years had been required to make one dollar do the job of three so = had no leeway to do more than top up dykes. His response in outline was = find the money and we will give it a try.=20 Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville ----- Original Message -----=20 From: John and Nhung=20 To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca=20 Sent: Sunday, February 02, 2014 5:57 AM Subject: RE: [NatureNS] High Tide Photos #2 Sign of things to come. =20 From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca = [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] On Behalf Of Rick Whitman Sent: February-01-14 9:21 PM To: naturens Subject: [NatureNS] High Tide Photos #2 =20 I have posted two photos taken today at East Point, N.
