This thread is a bit off topic but IMHO your evaluation is 100% =
incorrect. How can investigation of our past or studies of current =
marine pollution be construed as socialist babble ? Who, other than the =
Harper government, has been telling the rest of the country how to live =
? [I by the way strongly object to Harper's program of phasing out =
incandescent lighbulbs; an absolute buy my better bulb boondoggle and =
that does in fact boil down to Ottawa telling us how to live. In some =
climates it may make sense. Here it fits like an anvil in a shirt =
pocket.]
And broadcast mudslinging has never solved a difficult problem. =
Selective disbanding of inconvenient science has the effect of =
dismissing truth as being of no consequence.=20
A passage in 1 Esdras (4,12) comes to mind; "Women are strongest but =
truth conquers all."=20
Science is among other things "the handmaiden of industry" and the =
foundation of all science is an objective search for truth, but balance =
in all undertakings is an essential component of eventual success. How =
is balance possible if some questions can not be raised ? Of what value =
will extensive extraction of arctic petrochemicals be if it helps =
trigger a chaotic climatic maelstrom ?=20

  Typical socialist babble,

Just what we need, a left wing, pro perversionist, put us in more debt =
with liberal spending/socialist programs, out of touch urbanites telling =
the rest of the country how to live.

  Spare us!!!

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for pointing this out. If you are preparing to rob the =
store, environment, country... you will if possible fire the night =

We can never expect to have responsible government, other than =
by accident, until some form of proportional representation is =
instituted with Parliment, not the PMO, running the show [and the =
sideshow i.e. Senate]..=20

With 38% of the popular vote (if I recall correctly) the =
Harperites and their regressive ideology would be largely on the =
sidelines of policy formulation so clearly the push for proportional =
representation must come from other parties.

I recently sent the following e-mail to Mulcair and Trudeau; =
automated response and no response respectively. A few million such =
e-mails might register so consider sending them a message and spreading =
the word.

    Hello: Dec 6, 2013
I expect you both will have contrary ideas but, from where I =
stand, I=20
think your primary objectives in the next Federal election should be =
to to=20
displace the PC party, by coalition in word or in deed if necessary.

Consequently I think you both should focus on being critical of =
the=20
Harper Government, their policies not just senate scandals and the =
like, and=20
be less critical of each other.

Your coalition, if necessary, would be only a temporary union to =
get us=20
    out of a difficult situation.

Whatever the composition may be of the next party(s) that =
displace the=20
Federal PC, I think your first priority should be to formulate and =
institute=20
a form of proportional representation that will make it possible for =
the=20
Federal Government to represent the aspirations of and be responsive =
to the=20
diverse demands of the voting public.

The very idea of First Past the Post when more than two parties =
are=20
running is the stuff of nightmares and eventually either bloody =
riots or=20
total disinterest; e. g. a party with only 32% of the popular vote =
forming a=20
    government.

Yours truly, David H. Webster, Kentville, N.S.=20

For those of you who missed this Fifth Estate program last =
night, it is on again tonight at 9 pm on CBC Newsworld TV, right after =
The Nature of Things at 8 pm.

This is a very important program and very discouraging about our =
present federal government. Everyone needs to see this and react to it =
in some way, with letters to MPs and Ministers and Prime Minister, etc.

My only criticism of this program is that CBC elected not to =
show us the names of the principal characters in this episode.

Please check it out and tell everyone you know. It should be =
available also at cbc.ca/fifth/ or perhaps cbc.ca/fifthestate/ .
