Dear All, Nov 21, 2013 At about 1:00 pm in North Alton woods I saw a small insect (wingspan about 1cm) flying slowly and barely keeping aloft; wings a gray blur and body inconspicuous (~3oC I expect). I could likely have caught it in one hand had I not been wearing leather 3-finger mitts and carrying a saw and saw kit. It did not resemble a Winter Cranefly, a beetle or a Lep. I suspect a Stonefly. There is no running water nearby but 100 paces or so away there is a swamp that has standing water 8 months and likely year round if you count chinks between rocks. The Squirrels are making a comeback after a lean 12/13 winter; lots of fresh cone scales and I have seen several recently. Dave Webster, Kentville
