It is getting busy again here in the yard at White Point. The Blue Jays are
back and in less than a week they have pretty much cleaned up all the seeds
of my Big Russian sunflowers. Piggys is what they are. Woodpeckers were
investigating them and I was having fun watching the until the Rowdy bunch
arrived.
There is still at least one chipmunk about. I am so fearful that the rain
the other night may have drowned the little fresh one who insisted on
spending time in the downstairs drain. It was fun to watch chipmunk
"Longtail" eating Kiwis from the vine that grows with the grapes. It makes a
small hole then eats all the inside and tosses the casing! Same with the
grapes. Every now and again when I am in the studio there it goes rolling
one fruit or the other along the grass and down into the drain.
The past while I have been seeing this bird. I have some distant photos from
the old camera but I couldn't say what it was. Today I may have a photo of
one of them. They seem similar at any rate. I'm thinking a female
Dickcissel. Dave Currie (I posted it on Facebook) thinks so too, so I am
pleased. I have seen the males in their yellow before but this is the first
female/juvenile I've knowingly seen.
At the same time was a Baltimore Oriole having a go at the grapes. While I
was taking a photo of the Dickcissel, a White breasted nuthatch landed in
the shot and when it left the tree it nearly flew right through me!
Starlings are about and practicing their maneuvers. There are number of bald
Eagles flying along the shore and over the golf course the past couple days
so White Point had better keep an eye on their bunnies!
I see an occasional Robin but none right here. Very unusual to say that for
this time of the year. The white throat Sparrows have checked back in and
are staking claim to the fir outside the front window so they will be
entertainment for the winter again. Lots of song as well as a Savannah.
