Hi Bev=0AWisteria sinensis has been available as a garden vine=0Afor a=A0lo=
t of years. Roscoe Filmore says in his book it=0Ais perfectly wood hardy bu=
t the did not tend to flower. He attributed=0Athat to the flower buds not b=
een winter hardy here=A0but on the internet=0AI read that it will not flowe=
r if fertility is high so perhaps that was why =0ARoscoe's didn't flower bu=

Wisteria sinensis in Annapolis Royal=0A =0A=0AAll,=0A=0AEarlier this week=
, while driving along St. George Street, Annapolis Royal, on the section th=
at lies between the intersections with Rte 201 and Cape Road, I=0A noticed =
foliage that seemed unfamiliar.=A0 Today, we stopped at the roadside to tak=
e a better look.=A0 The vegetation turned out to be a huge mass of woody vi=
nes growing pretty much rampant on what appears to be a large vacant lot on=
the west side of the street. The plot of vines is extremely vigorous and j=
ungle-like and looks to be aggressively growing over everything in its path=
.=A0 I intend to return to take more photos and also estimate just how larg=
e an area is occupied by the vines.=A0 =0ALarry broke off a section of vine=
and one of the big seed pods which has a velvety texture.=A0 Here is a pho=
to which Larry took of the leaves and a pod sitting on a standard letter si=
ze piece of paper.=0Ahttp://magickcanoe.com/2013/wist-1.jpg=0AOnce home, La=
rry looked online and is of the opinion that it is probably Wisteria sinens=
is.=A0 Is anyone familiar with this plant=0A and can you confirm the ID?=
=A0 We checked range maps and it looks as though it is a serious invasive =
in many U.S. states, but we couldn't find much in the way of references for=
Canada.=A0 Does anyone know if this species has become a nuisance anywhere=
else in Nova Scotia?=A0 Also, we came across a website for the Invasive S=
pecies Alliance of Nova Scotia.=A0 There is a button saying "Report an Inva=
sive Species", but it goes to a "Not Found" page, so isn't of much use.=A0 =
You can visit this page to see for yourself.=A0 =0Ahttp://www.invasivespeci=
esns.ca/=0ADoes anyone know who is keeping track of invasive species here i=
n Nova Scotia?=A0 If this is the first escape of this species, this would b=
e a good time to stamp on it has a chance to spread further.=A0 =0A=0Abev w=
