There were three, and only three, of these large (20mm long) oval holes in a White Pine stump (details in caption). They were made sometime in the past 10 days: http://www.flickr.com/photos/92981528@N08/9578940238/ Close-up showing adjacent Beetle larvae(?) shotgun holes: http://www.flickr.com/photos/92981528@N08/9576158069/ Closer still: http://www.flickr.com/photos/92981528@N08/9578945386/ The next one, using a depth-distorting flash, shows a bit of the stuff inside. It reminded me of cobwebbed sawdust: http://www.flickr.com/photos/92981528@N08/9578942822/ I poked a stick in one but saw nothing obvious behind the fluff except a round chamber. Any idea what could have made them? Nancy Sent from my iPhone
