Hello Paul - and all,

Regarding the caterpillar and length of time until a moth emerges. The foll=
owing may be of some use, although I am unsure what happens this late in the=
 season.

In 2004, I photographed a Rusty Tussock Moth (Orgyia antiqua) caterpillar, k=
ept it in a jar, and photographed the moth after it eclosed.
This is a photgraph of the caterpillar when first found on July 10.

My notes below the photo state: =20
I brought this caterpillar indoors on July 10, 2004, and put it in a glass j=
ar with some honeysuckle leaves. I covered the jar with a piece of paper to=
wel secured with an elastic. Within about 24 to 36 hours, the caterpillar h=
ad made a thin, gauzy, yellowish cocoon on the underside of the papertowel l=
id. It emerged as a moth on July 23, 2004.
Here are two photos of the moth - photographed live while resting on a piece=
 of paper:

It's a rather cool looking little moth. =20
Good luck with your experiment!
