Index of Subjects --001a11c3d30428709104e42998b7 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 I was at my cottage in Port Hilford, Guysborough Co the last two weeks, and I can report the same thing regarding the biting midges. Also, blackflies were few and far between this year. The usually common American and Painted Lady butterflies were absent. Mosquitoes were another story, and while not in clouds were bothersome, as where the deerflies. Hoverflies and bumblebees were also seen in normal numbers. I did see normal numbers of Wood Nymphs, Sulfurs and Northern Blues. I saw a single Great Spangled Fritillary and I think a single Monarch which did not stick around for a positive ID. I also saw the normal few small bats swooping around the cove at dusk.
