Late in the 1980s the numbers of Red-necks fell catastrophically for unknown reasons a= nd the separation became less clear. That situation persisted into the past few y= ears. There is a discussion of this in The Birds of Brier Island, and at UNB Rob= in Hunnewell has been working on the distribution of the two species (Ph.D research probabl= y now finished but I haven't seen it yet).
