Anyhow=2C On July 27=2C I ra= n the outing for the Nova Scotia Bird Society for Mahone Bay. It was a goo= d day=2C not too hot and not too cold=2C but just right and with just the p= roper amount of wind to keep the mosquitos and horseflies mostly at bay. I= had four individuals show up for the outing. Three of these were photogra= phers=2C one of which is a birder from Florida/North Carolina. Another of = the group was a very sharp birder who is only 11 years old from Newfoundlan= d. Probably the best birds seen by him were of a veery=2C a Canada warbler= and a gray catbird all of which were a first for him. It is wonderful to = see a young birder when he gets a life bird like a Canada warbler=2C it doe= s the heart and soul good. During the outing some great photos were obtain= ed and we racked up 48 species in total. The Dynamite Trail in Mahone Bay w= as the most productive area covered and provided a nice grouping of differe= nt species. We had 34 black-capped chickadees there=2C four red-breasted n= uthatches=2C an alder flycatcher=2C a veery and a good array of warblers. = The second best location was Second Peninsula. Overall for this trip warbl= ers were not plentiful with only nine species and we had nice close looks a= t three species of shorebirds. At Second Peninsula there was a group of 7= 2 red-winged blackbirds. =20 James R.
