Hi all=20
Yesterday afternoon I did a search for butterflies in the Pictou area (3 =
squares-20NR25, 20NR26, 20NR16). It was moderately windy but sunny and I =
came up with 13 documented species adding 2 new ones to each of the =
squares if my bookkeeping is up to date.=20
Most common in numbers were Great Spangled Fritillary and Salt Marsh =
Copper. The latter is a new one for me for Pictou Co. Dr. Phil had =
discovered some last year at this time in the Three Brooks area in the =
salt marsh near the Weirs gut bridge. I was not able to find any in this =
location yesterday. I extended my search area a few kilometres and I did =
discover a nice group along the marsh along the Otter Rd.in 2 places. It =
was not necessary to go into the marsh as they were on plants such as =
goldenrod and meadowsweet in the ditch or road shoulder. (45.73184 =
-62.76972)
I was able to document all except Common WoodNymph which seemed rather =
flighty and I think I had them already for the squares from other years =
of the atlas. Many thanks to Jim Edsall for help with the worn skippers =
and male/female GS Frits.=20
Here is my list and approx. numbers:

European Skipper-10
Least Skipper-1
Long-dash Skipper-2
Dun Skipper-2
Hobomok Skipper-2
Azure sp.-4
Northern Crescent-2
Eyed Brown-8
Cabbage White-10
Pink-edged Sulphur-1
Clouded Sulphur-8
Great Spangled Fritillary-20
Salt Marsh Copper-20
Common Wood Nymph-2

cheers
Ken
