--089e013d1b9c9170e904e17b651b Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 When I saw this moth on the window frame (E Dalhouisie, Kings Co) I immediately thought ot a rolled up dead leaf: http://www.flickr.com/photos/92981528@N08/9270585764/ The curved, serrated edges of the wings would camoflage it nicely among the leaf litter here I think: http://www.flickr.com/photos/92981528@N08/9268657609/ This moth was IDed by Jim Edsall as a Symmerista spp, (likely S. canicosta) aka the *Red-humped Oakworm Moth. *If so, Wikipedia says the following about this species: "Full-grown larvae drop to the ground in late September and pupate between rolled leaves in the litter." The moth would be nicely disguised when it emerges in Spring. Perhaps others know more about this moth's life history?
