Hi Nancy
Rein is used to describe a caribou as in Reindeer.
It may mean the shape of the horn when in velvet
which bears a fleeting resemblance to a rein orchid flower.
Enjoy the sun
Paul

I will be answering my own question but, according to an Amazon blurb on an flower guide, Rein Orchids are so called because:

"of the resemblance of some of the flowers to the reins used on horses"

How true this is I do not know, never having seen one.

Nancy
