I had read about how aggressive and defensive a gray catbird could be to co=
me to the defense of others of their kind. Until today I did not really ex=
perience this. I took a walk along the Centennial Trail in Bridgewater lat=
er this afternoon. Upon coming back to the car I saw a warbler fly into the=
flora=2C and I was unsure of the id. I pished briefly and the next thing =
I know a gray catbird comes barrelling out of the shrubs. For a moment I t=
hought it was going to attack me. It came straight for me and then flew ar=
ound me so close that I could have touched it. It landed a foot from me on=
my car and continued to berate me. It then flew to the ground by the car =
beside mine and then up onto that car before going into a tree still not fa=
r from me. It continued to chatter at me. Of course I did not continue t=
o pish=2C I shut up right away as soon as I saw the bird come flying out at=
me. My presence seemed to be enough to continue the aggravation=2C so I m=
ade a quick exit. By the way the mystery warbler was a black and white war=
bler and when I left this warbler was within six inches of the catbird. =20
