Informative Article by Mark Elderkin on Nova Scotia’s vanishing bats is in today's Chronicle Herald - The Nova Scotian http://thechronicleherald.ca/thenovascotian/1138588-nova-scotia-s-vanishing-bats " ....So what can Nova Scotians do to help? "This summer, record every bat you see: write down the date and time, numbers, behaviours and location. If you have a nursery colony in your roofline, wait for a warm summer evening, take your favourite beverage, family and friends with lawn chairs and count bats as they emerge from the house. "Don’t go in abandoned mines and caves because you may spread the white-nose fungus. If you do know where bats were hibernating last winter, or did hibernate in the past, this is very important information for future conservation initiatives."
