Hi all
Last week (June 20 &21) after doing early morning bird surveys on some prop=
erties along the St Mary's River (Guys) for the NS Nature Trust=2C I spent =
a few hours looking for butterflies in the area. Common species were Can. T=
iger Swallowtail=2C Clouded Sulphur=2C Hobomoks and Arctic Skippers=2C Nort=
hern Spring Azure=2C and a few Northern Crescent=2C Common Ringlet and Silv=
er-bordered Fritillary. I was able to photograph a Pepper and Salt Skipper=
on the Bill Ned L. Rd. off the Waternish Rd.on the 20th in 2 places.
On the 21th=2C I again documented Pepper and Salt Skipper this time at Smit=
hfield. Later on a trail through mixed woods with pine and a stream in the =
Battery L. square near Sunny Brae =2C I discovered and photographed Roadsid=
e Skipper. This is my first encounter with this species. Nice to see both i=
t and Pepper and Salt the same day to note the differences.=20
=20
On June 19 in the Maple L area of Pictou Co.=2C Charlie Kendell and I had N=
orthern Cloudywing and Dreamy Duskywing in addition to some of the more com=
mon species
=20
On PEI early yesterday morning (23rd)=2C I only had a short walk on the Tr=
ansCanada Trail near Cardigan Head=2C but had Long Dash Skipper=2C Viceroy=
=2C Clouded Sulphur and Northern Crescent. There were Tiger Swallowtails wh=
ich did not pose for a photo.=20
=20
So there are finally a few butterflies=2C but they are not overly abundant.=

cheers
Ken
