The trail requires a diversion around an extensive bog, and the bridge is gone across the Prospect River. We also went on a side trail as far as the dam at the outlet of Big Indian Lake. It was sunny, but there were very few butterflies in evidence - one swallowtail, a few azures, and an elusive skipper. No photos, alas. But a flowering *Rosa rugosa* had attracted many interesting insects, of which I managed to photograph two. Can anyone assist with identification? First up, a mating pair of beetles. http://flic.kr/p/eUoErh And now an odd fly. http://flic.kr/p/eUoEiA I managed a photo of a dragonfly, but have failed to put a name to it. Can anyone help? http://flic.kr/p/eUcfda We later found a patch of white violets, and I took some photos. They were *Lance-leaved Violets*, a life plant for me. The *Flora of NS* says it is fairly common, but I have evidently failed to see them before. Here are two photos: http://flic.kr/p/eUoMxj http://flic.kr/p/eUp5My Martine spotted a frog, and from the photo I think it to be a *Pickerel Frog *, which I have not seen before. A photo is here: http://flic.kr/p/eUoFqA My last photo is from our garden, of the largest *Green Frog* I have ever seen. It is a male, with a loud call. How long lived are Green Frogs? My sense is that this fellow has been present in our yard for at least 4 years (he gets bigger each year). Here is his portrait: http://flic.kr/p/eUoFwo Keep on naturalising. . .
