Yes=2C Jim=2C these are quite common between Coldbrook & Kentville along th=
e RR bed. No eggs of the Harvester as yet though.

As for photography perhaps Rick can do the honors since he is closer.

Subject: [ValleyNature] woolly aphids in residential Wolfville

JUNE 23=2C 2013 - Today at Wolfville's 51 Kent Ave. along the sidewalk we f=
ound an ornamental shrub with one branch festooned with a carpet of woolly =
aphids of some kind. These insects belong in the family Eriosomatidae=2C a=
family of both woolly aphids and gall-forming aphids (or just gall aphids)=
. These are relatives of real aphids that have reduced or absent cornicles=
and complicated life-cycles involving altenrate host plants as well as alt=
ernation of asexual and bisexual generations. I read that the protective w=
ool-like white wax=2C which appears to be in strands sticking out from the =
individual insects=2C occurs only on the immature stages=2C i.e.=2C mostly =
the various instars of the nymphs.

I don't know what kind of shrub this was=2C but it has opposite leaves and =
currently immature green fruits=2C which look like they will be berries.

I took a few photos=2C but I am inept at this=2C and I wonder if ANDY DEAN =
or Rick Whitman or Richard Stern or Angus MacLean=2C in their spare time??=
=2C could find this one branch which is really obvious=2C and get a decent =
macro photo of what a dense group of these woolly aphids looks like? (Or=
=2C of course=2C everyone interested should just Google "woolly aphids" or =
"Eriosomatidae" and find some illustrations etc. there.)

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
