Therefore I am interested in learning more about the cicadas we do have. I=
would be interested in hearing about sightings and hearings (note this doe=
s not refer to court proceedings) of cicadas in NS this summer. Good quali=
ty pictures should allow identification to species. Has anyone seen a cica=
da adult in NS this year?

<p>I am not going to wade in on what may be happening to bird and cicada po=
pulations where the periodical cicadas (<i>Magicicada</i> spp.) are emergin=
g in the northeastern US, but wish to focus on cicadas in NS.</p>
<p>I am very interested in hearing about people=92s sightings and hearings =
of our local cicadas. Andrew Hebda and I exchanged a few emails about=
the cicadas in NS. We both agree we know very little about the speci=
es that live here (I think it is three species,
but it may be 1 and it may be 5). We know less about abundances acro=
ss the province.

<p>From my point of view all the media hype on cicadas is irrelevant for NS=
because we do not have the periodical cicadas.</p>
