Hi All
Today we went to the Nictaux River for a little fishing and exploring.
Not a river I know well - at least the lower end.
Adult Shad have taken advantage of the recent rains and high water
to leave the river. In spite of the rain the water is still quite clear - not like some of the other Valley Rivers. On Friday Shad were numerous in the river and could be seen easily but not today. Shad alevins were in clouds in the quite water. Too small for Kingfishers yet but not for long!
We had a few fish however even if they were unexpected. A Small Mouth
Bass was a susprise for that river. They are so well adapted to this part of Nova Scotia they thrive wherever they find themselves.
Electrical Generating has really changed the river. The work was extensive - dams, canals, flumes and so on all the way up the river.
Unfortunately I never got to see it as it was, but I don't use Kerosene lights any more!
Enjoy the spring
Paul
