We had the BNS field trip around the Miner's Marsh trail in Kentville and
then along the rail bed trail a little way to the east this morning. The
group was small, but full of expertise, on many aspects of nature, from
trees to birds to insects to fungi - made it a really interesting 3 hours.
From a birder's point of view, there weren't many species, but we heard a
Sora, a Common Yellowthroat, and a Baltimore oriole, and saw a number of
Catbirds, 3 E.Kingbirds, Yellow warblers
and adult Crows feeding begging young, many Red-winged blackbirds including
a nest, and in particular, 50+ Swallows, and a further 100+ along the road
at Stella's Pond - mostly Bank, but some Tree and a few Barn and Cliff. 2
of us went to photograph an active Bald eagle's nest in New Minas, and
later saw the adults being dive-bombed by Red-wings as they brought food in
for the young.

If any of the other participants want to add to this message, especially
the non-bird nature sightings, please do so.

Many thanks for coming, Richard
