Hi All Today was so lovely a friend and I went to the Valley to see if there were any shad around. There was and some were even willing to grab our flies. Amazing the number in the river - one of natures wonders. The eggs have hatched - some at least - clouds of alevins were in the quiter parts - they hatch quickly and will leave the river as parr come September - but you all know that! Anglers along the river told us there is an abundance of small shad this year - 0.5 kg in weight instead of the usual 1.5 - 2.0 kg range - Usually don't see that size in the river - nobody sure why. The ones we caught were in the normal range with one rather large female - she was spawned out. Gaspereaux anglers on the South Shore report the same thing with Gaspereaux. A lot of very small ones - something that hasn't been seen before. Nature has a lot of unanswered questions. A great day in the outdoors enjoying nature. Paul
