Hi Everyone; Eight people showed up on Monday, May 20th for the NSBS Historic Hants County Field Trip. The weather was terrible: cold, windy, with the forecasted rain starting around noon. We spent the first hour at Mount Uniacke, walking the trails close to the House. Best bird there was a Pileated Woodpecker. We had a pair of Wood Ducks on the lake just past Hwy #202 (at the foot of Coles Road), as well as Tree and Barn Swallows. On Elliott Road we picked up Nashville warblers, a few Magnolias, Black & White, Yellow-rumped and Black-throated Green. At the last stop before Smiley's Prov. Park we got our usual Bobolinks and were treated to an aerial display from a pair of calling Wilson's Snipes. We ate lunch at a picnic table under a canopy at Smiley's and took turns darting out into the rain to get looks at American Redstarts. By this time we had tallied 42 species - a record low for this trip - and I called it a day. Cheers; Suzanne
