Hello. This Email is being sent to key persons with community groups = in the area around the Otter Lake landfill. Please distribute this to = your mailing lists. The object is to try to get as large a turnout as = possible =96 in spite of the fact that the meeting time makes it = difficult for those with =93regular=94 jobs to attend =96 at the meeting = of HRM Council set for 1 p.m. Tues April 23rd. Please ask everyone to = make their best efforts to attend and to SHOW THEIR SUPPORT.=20 As you are all no doubt aware by now, HRM staff are recommending that = HRM Council pass a motion to set the stage for possibly eliminating the = Front End Processing (=93FEP=94) and Waste Stabilization Facility = (=93WSF=94) aspects of the Otter Lake Landfill operation. These two = components were fundamental to acceptance by the local communities, back = in 1996, of the siting of the landfill at Otter Lake. The siting and = components were the culmination of a public consultation process of 458 = meetings over 15 weekends and 1,000=92s of hours of volunteer time. The = result has been a landfill which is the envy of other jurisdictions in = Canada and abroad. The promise was that the landfill would be operated, = as set up, for 25 years. Concerned citizens should not stand idly by = and allow these two key elements of the landfill sited at Otter Lake to = be eliminated. It is essential that a large turn-out of = those who oppose this rush to change the Otter Lake landfill be present = to show their opposition to this initiative going forward. This is not = something that surrounding communities can afford to take lightly. The = host communities need a show of strength and support. Please make every = effort to be in attendance, even if it means standing outside the = crowded Council Chambers in the hallway.
