They are pretty smart and as long as you have an attractant out they will
keep coming. There's usually a reason they are there. If you have a bird
feeder try being as diligent as you can about raking up seed underneath or
consider pulling them for a while. We had a few a while ago and we pulled
our feeder and made sure all garbage was kept in stainless steel cans (
less than $30 at Canadian tire and well worth it). Also ,exposed compost
piles are tempting. I applaud you for not choosing poison as that travels
up the food chain quickly and any animal that eats a poisoned rat will also
succumb to rat poison.
